Nautical going overboard

I have to admitt a fondness for anything nautical. I've bugged my dad, who served in the French navy many decades ago, constantly about trying to find his old uniform pea jacket - to no avail. I think being denied this simple vintage joy pushed me to collect as many sailor-inspired pieces of clothing I could find (or rather, afford). Yet, I gather that some nautical styles are over-doing it, and wanting to avoid the fashion faux-pas (or rather, ridicule) I'd like to know what these could be.
Given that the essence of nautical is (for tops, rompers and dresses) an exagerated collar, I wonder at which point "exagerated" becomes a deal-breaker.

This Knitted Dove top has been on my mind for some times. Unfortunately, I'm reluctant to buy from Modcloth now - which is to bad because their selection is to die for. I simply adore the French navy collar. I'm trying to find out whether Knitted Dove clothes are stocked anywhere else on the web, but so far, not much luck.
So I drowned my sorrow in this striped dress, which I ordered from Spotted Moth. No exagerated collar, no shockingly deep blue, no over-the-top buttons. Should arrive here pretty swoon soon. I'm counting on some nice Parisian weather to sport it asap.
